As Jeff and I look at climate refugee immigration patterns out of the mountains of Perú,
one small Pacific island country has invested in higher land to escape to as rising waters slowly swallow their country whole.
"Kiribati president Anote Tong is well aware of this, saying of the purchase, 'we would hope not to put everyone on [this] one piece of land, but if it became absolutely necessary, yes, we could do it.'"

Just over 100,000 inhabitants, 310 sq. miles, former UK colony and site of hydrogen bomb testing, embattled Kiribati just bought a small chunk of land from the Church of England, creating en emergency home-away-from-home on a Fijian Island some 1,200+ miles away. |
